Trends and fashion keeps changing and there is a new range of clothing launched after every season. You need clear your wardrobe every now and then so that you can update it with the new stuff that is ruling the market. You cannot just keep collecting stuff without discarding the old stuff from your wardrobe. The best way to discard the old stuff from your wardrobe is to sell your used clothes to consignment shops. You can easily sell your used stuff that has a tag on it. However, you need to develop some good relations with the consignment stores before you can start off with the respective procedure. You must be confused about finding the right kind of store so that you can start selling of your clothes.
First of all you will have to check all the consignment stores that are present in your neighborhood and locality. This can be a little difficult and hectic to handle. The best way you can do it is by finding out the details in the yellow pages and preparing the list of all the shops present in your area. You can also consider using the internet to find out more information and get a list of all the stores in your locality. You will get the contact details along with the list along with all the latest information and updates. If you are using the search engines to find out more information then do not forget the name of area.
You can also consider asking for any recommendations and suggestions from your friends and relatives. This is the easiest way to know about these shops and they might be able to give you all the necessary information making your work easy. It is better if you find out all the information about these shops in advance as they vary in quality. After making a list of all the shops you can shortlist a few that fit under your category and requirements and start making visits. You will need to ask further questions about the particular brand or clothes that can be sold in shop, if the clothes should be in a particular condition, track of the sales record, what will be the percentage charged by the stores if they sell the stuff and the mode of payment.
After getting all the information you can choose the store and start giving your best clothes before. They will mostly accept stuff like pants, jeans, T shirts, shirts and suits. You can organize and arrange your clothes according to the category and condition they are in. It is necessary that you understand the sales process and commission process well in advance. You can also negotiate the commission rate with the shop owner if you feel like.

Hi Kate, I actually read about this last night on the web. They said they could claim anything on the property (if it was owned by the consignment store or not)…..I was thinking….Those police cars/IRS vehicles that drove onto the property…they might as well sell those too (if that is the case).
A little far fetched my point, but they are saying that they will take anything on the property…

I've been in hyper decluttering mode too. I've made at least three trips to the consignment store in the last few weeks. Books, I admit are my weakness. I hate getting rid of them. Usually, I put a post-it in the front cover with a date about 1-2 years in the future. If I haven't read the book by then, away it goes. Less is more. I love living without clutter.

I would say that I tried, and failed to knit, so gave it to another pregnant girl who knew how to knit. I would tell them that I became so frustrated in trying to learn that it was really stressing me out. I would still thank them for the thought again, though.

Somebody said we're too dumb to govern ourselves but plenty smart to tell who can govern us. Government can't do everything for us and even if it could we would have to let government do anything to us.

I have sold big lots of children's clothing, all the same size, on Ebay and got a nice price for it. The consignment shops here in my town are very selective what kids clothes they'll take just because of the sheer number of things they would get, but on Ebay you can put it in a lot, the good with the bad, and as long as you have several big label items, it will probably sell well, and that's only a 7-day auction.

Honesty is the best policy, just say sorry, you never learn to knit.

How to Start a Consignment Store

Prices are too high considering the stuff is used.
I'll buy stuff at 30/40 cents on the dollar used, but not 75.

Ugh….I had someone at my old church that used to hound me at every service about having twins. They said the SAME thing to me about one baby hiding behind the other. Then they bought me some more maternity clothes at a consignment store because I'll “be growing a lot more at the end with my twins.” The clothes were hideous too. (And never worn.)
But I guess that's better than the person who told me I needed to install a beeper because I was getting as big as a garbage truck. He was lucky we were in the sanctuary……
For whatever condolence this is: I think that you look good!

Just say "Thanks so much. I haven't had a chance to work on that yet." Or say that a friend took it and is knitting it for you since you weren't confident that you could do it properly.

If you basically are running a store from your home it may be against the zoning laws where you live. If you do a few yard sales a year you probably will not have any problems.
One thing is sure. If you sell anything, you probably have to pay taxes on your profits. Speak to the person who does your taxes about that. Call the local town gov't and ask about zoning laws.

I don't live in your area, so I can't speak to which store is best.
Here, however, clothing is always traded for store credit (40% of resale value) while equipment and furniture gets cash (same percent). If you could get cash for clothes, I'd take it over credit. The one exception would be a change in seasons or if your child just had (or is having) a growth spurt and you know you'll need the next size/style soon, since you can get way more stuff than taking cash and buying new. The other advantage of cash over credit is if the store credit expires. Here, you have a year to use your credit. I just sold a ton of my daughter's stuff (and am about to sell more, she just had a huge growth spurt) but I already have about $150 in trade. No idea if I'll be able to use it all in time. Consignment might get you more money than straight-up trade or cash, but it takes time and you have to decide if you want to wait.
I'd take everything all at once to the store you feel has the best trade/cash or the best selection for what you would buy. Then take what they didn't want to a different store. I've had some (but not much) luck selling things to one store that the other didn't want. It all depends on what they have and want they need. So before you Goodwill something, try a few stores.
You can also try Craigslist if you want cash, but that's kind of a crap shoot.
